Metro College Alliance Registration
New Name Same Educational Opportunities
Effective January 1, 2025, a new Metro College Alliance course exchange agreement will serve students in place of the Tri-College University consortium, which sunsets at the end of 2024. Students will continue to enjoy broadened educational opportunities through this partnership and the same seamless course enrollment process.
The Metro College Alliance is designed to adapt to the evolving higher education landscape, ensuring that students continue to benefit from the collaborative spirit of the five colleges and universities that adhere to the agreement: Concordia College, Minnesota State University Moorhead, North Dakota State College of Science, North Dakota State University, and Minnesota State Community and Technical College (M State).
Metro College Alliance Course Registration
Metro College Alliance registration is open for the spring 2025 semester. Please register using the Metro College Alliance registration form below and send it to your home campus.
Enrollment begins November 12, 2024 for M State, Concordia, and MSUM. NDSU begins November 25, 2024.
MSUM will no longer be participating in Metro College Alliance during summer sessions.
Metro College Alliance minors will be phased out. All minor applications must be on file by December 20, 2024. Students with minors on file will receive further communication at a later date.
Metro College Alliance Eligibility
- Students must observe all registration and academic policies of their home campus, including arrangement for withdrawals, drop/adds, pass/fail options, audits and incomplete grades. Courses may be applied to resident credit requirements only at the institution where they register and pay tuition with one exception: NDSU students earning a University Studies degree must complete residency requirements through NDSU courses only.
- Grades earned through Metro College Alliance are calculated into home campus grade-point averages and posted on home campus academic records.
- Courses taken at MSUM by Concordia, M State or NDSU students will count in the MSUM GPA if those students subsequently transfer to MSUM.
- Students with documented disabilities who wish to register for Metro College Alliance courses and who have transportation or other needs should contact the Accessibility Resources office on their home campus.
- Although semester beginning and ending dates are similar between the Metro College Alliance institutions, please note that the breaks during the semester do not necessarily match.
- Students taking a Metro College Alliance course to repeat a home campus course previously taken must indicate this on the form. Duplication of credits is not permitted.
- Students enrolling in Metro College Alliance courses that require differential tuition and/or special fees (lab fees, lessons, supplies, etc.) will be responsible for paying those fees at the host campus.
- Concordia College students seeking enrollment at MSUM and NDSU must be enrolled at full-time status at their home campus.
- All students must be registered at their home campus before being eligible to enroll in Metro College Alliance courses. This enrollment limitation is not applicable during the summer term.
- The course exchange is limited to two courses per student per semester per participating campus, and only if the course(s) equivalent are not catalogued or offered on the student’s home campus in a given semester. Exceptions to the two course/semester limit among campuses are as follows:
- Students who have declared a Metro College Alliance minor (one not offered by their home campus). The minor must be declared and on file with the home institution, and will be confirmed by the home campus at the point of registration. The host campus will confirm that the course(s) being requested are required for the minor;
- Students who request enrollment in either the Aerospace Studies/Air Force ROTC (AS) or Military Science/Army ROTC (MS) courses at NDSU;
- Students who request enrollment in a course/lab pairing (lecture and corresponding lab)
- NDSU courses with a "Not Covered by Tuition Cap" location code, primarily online courses, are not eligible for Metro College Alliance enrollment.
