Practicum & Internships
CNSA students complete a 150-hour practicum and 750-hour internship experience in their respective coursework. The following are expectations for practicum and internship:
Practicum
- Practicum consists of one semester (usually Spring) of approximately 10 hours per week in a counseling setting.
- Practicum is taken for 3 semester credits. Practicum consists of a minimum of 150 clock hours (some sites require more hours than the CNSA requirements). A minimum of 40 of the 150 hours must be direct service with clients (individual counseling, group counseling, consultation, psychoeducation).
Internship
- Internship consists of 2 semesters (usually Fall and Spring) of approximately 25 hours per week in a counseling setting (some internship sites may require more than 25 hours per week).
- Internship is usually taken for 3 semester credits in the Fall and 3 semester credits in the Spring. Internship consists of a minimum of 750 clock hours (some sites require more hours than the CNSA requirements). Out of these 750 hours you must have a minimum of 240 hours of direct service with clients (individual counseling, group counseling, consultation, psychoeducation).
