Welcome to the Dragon Community: ReNae Schaefer

ReNae Schaefer is MSUM's newest General Maintenance Worker.

Q: What's one thing that has surprised you about MSUM?

A: I'm surprised by how many students know my name because I started my position mid-year. It makes me think of the Cheers theme: "sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name and they're always glad you came."

Q: How do you prefer to start your workday?
A: I start my day by reading scripture, checking my to-do list, and enjoying my morning BUBBL'R.

Q: What's one thing you are learning now, and why is it important?
A: I'm learning to enjoy what's right in front of me. This is a lifelong journey, but it's freeing to stop looking at what others have as a measure of what you don't have.

Q: What book are you currently reading (or show you are watching)?
A: I'm currently reading The Gurnsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, listening to the audiobook version of Treasure Island, and watching Lost in Space.

Q: What's something—big or small—that you are really good at?
A: I'm really good at cleaning and organizing. I enjoy the quiet as I go about my day helping make our campus a healthier, happier place. Every Dragon has an important part to play in this.

Q: What's your favorite place to eat in the FM area?
A: I prefer casual dining and if it includes Italian food, I'm all in. I really like Spaghetti Western.

Q: Are you a dog or cat person (or neither)?
A: When my son was 10, he wanted a dog, and I asked him why. He said, "because it's a dream come true." This is how my family gained a new best friend. Our dog is a great dog.
