Welcome to the Dragon Community: Michelle Pearson
As the Title III director, Michelle moves forward the goals of the Title III grant, which are increased student retention and degree completion, through holistic student support and individualized coaching and engaged learning, helping students make connections to their future careers.
Q: What made you want to work in academic affairs?
A: I love learning and being on campus, but what really energizes me is helping students feel connected and successful. It is so rewarding to see students feel joy in their learning, find connection to their Dragon community, and see how their time and effort here at MSUM will positively contribute to their career and how they want to impact the world.
Q: What's one thing that has surprised you about MSUM?
A: I was thrilled to see that there is Twenty Below Coffee in the dining center. And the center of campus is beautiful; I appreciate the giant acorns.
Q: How do you prefer to start your workday?
A: Coffee.
Q: What's your favorite place to eat in the FM area?
A: Jade Dragon has some of the most delicious veggie Pho - it is my go-to comfort restaurant.
Q: What's something others may not know about you?
A: I play cello and once had the opportunity to play Yo-Yo Ma's cello.
Q: What is your favorite part about working on a college campus?
A: Being surrounded by the energy of curiosity and learning every day.
Q: If you could pick one place in the whole world to visit, where would it be and why?
A: Alaska - they have fabulous mountains that I have not yet seen and absolutely need to hike.
Q: What are your hobbies outside of work?
A: Hiking, reading, baking, playing cello.
