Welcome to the Dragon Community: Amber Nelson

Amber Nelson is MSUM's new Human Resource Business Partner. She works with benefits, compensation and employee relations.

Q: What do you love about MSUM? 
A: I love the people and the campus. The community here cannot be beaten.

 Q: What is your favorite part about working on a college campus?
A: I like getting to see all different ages and walks of life from students to faculty and staff, and just getting to interact with a variety of people is so fun.

 Q: What do you enjoy the most about working in HR?
A: I enjoy helping people with major life events, like maternity leave, and raises, and promotions. It's nice to know that you're helping someone through an exciting event in their life.

Q: What made you want to shift from working in the business offices of MSUM to working in the HR department? 
A: I have been in the banking and business sector since I began my career; I learned a ton and I gained so much valuable experience and knowledge. I wanted a new challenge, which brought me to Human Resources. I want to be able to play a part in important life changes and feel the impact I'm making for others - maternity leave and retirement are examples.

Q: What's something others may not know about you? 
A: I am kind of a dare devil. I've been skydiving, weight boarding, and snowboarding. Those kinds of things are fun for me.

Q: Where is the best place to get a cup of coffee in the area? 
A: There are so many good places around town, but I go back to my classic Starbucks coffee every time.

Q: If you could only have three apps on your cell phone, what would they be? 
A: It would have to be my calendar app, Google Maps, and Pinterest.
