Historical Sketch

The West Central Regional Development Commission [WCRDC] was established in 1973 to assist local governments in planning for common needs, cooperating for mutual benefits, and coordinating programs for sound area-wide development. The commission includes the Minnesota counties of Becker, Clay, Douglas, Grant, Otter Tail, Pope, Sterns, Traverse, and Wilkin. Membership on the Commission is made up of county commissioners, city mayors or councilmen, township supervisors, representatives of Councils of Government, Soil Conservation members, the White Earth Indian Tribal Council and area school districts. The purpose of the organization is to strengthen the individual collective power of local government by (1) recognizing area-wide opportunities and matters of mutual concern; (2) helping local governments resolve both local and area-wide problems and make joint decisions; and (3) developing means to assist local governments in the implementation of those decisions. 

Collection Description

West Central Regional Development Commission Papers is a collection of handbooks published by the organization from the years of 1976-1979. Included are the annual handbooks, economic development programs, individual county programs, and individual county program planning manuals.
