Biographical Sketch

Raised in South Dakota, Cynthia Palmer moved to Moorhead in 1986. Since that time, she has been involved in a number of activities with a number of organizations concerning public policies in Moorhead, especially issues dealing with poverty, human rights, community betterment, and accountability of elected officials. Through the late 1980s, she was involved in the proposals to create a human rights ordinance for Moorhead and establish a human rights commission In 1989, she was a candidate for mayor of Moorhead, but lost the election to the incumbent, Morris Lanning. She taught Women’s Studies at Moorhead State University for several years, and in 1993 was elected to the Moorhead City Council for the 2nd ward. She served two terms on the council before deciding not to run for re-election in 1997.

Collection Description

This collection consists of records concerning the city council of Moorhead, the Human Rights Commission in the city, and the numerous issues concerning community development of the city. It includes correspondence, minutes, files on community issues, electioneering materials, and news clippings. All of the materials are in excellent condition.
