Historical Sketch

George O. Swenson was born in 1898 in Maxwell Township, Minnesota. His parents moved to a different farm in Boyd, Minnesota when he was four, and he grew up on this second farm, graduating from Dawson High School in 1917. He then worked on family farm property in South Dakota. Returning to Minnesota, he married Ruth Holmquist in 1920, whose family had a neighboring farm near Boyd. They made their home on the Swenson farm in Providence Township, raising three children, growing small grains, and building a heard of beef cattle. Adding other farm property, the Swenson’s incorporated their operations in 1965. George Swenson did in February 1982. 

Collection Description

Records of the Swenson farm operations include account books, receipts, tax records, miscellaneous information on beef cattle, numerous pamphlets and documents from farming organizations and co-ops, and several published books on various aspects of farming. All materials are in excellent condition and provide a detailed overview of the Swenson farm.
