Biographical Sketch
Norman Walz was born July 18, 1915 at Detroit Lakes, Minnesota where he grew up and attended school. He served in the United States Navy. He married Kathryn Fasching in 1937, and they had seven children. Mr. Walz was the owner operator of the Detroit Lakes Independent Oil Company from 1950-1960. He had served as a member of the Detroit Lakes Civic and Commerce Association and director of the Northwest Petroleum Association. An active DFL’er, Walz caucused with the liberal caucus. He was elected to the Minnesota Senate in 1954 and served three, four year terms. Senator Walz served on the Senate Finance, Game and Fish, Public Domain, Bank and Bankings, and Aviation Committees. He died in 1984.
