Courses & Curriculum in Online Social Work
The BSW Online program at MSUM is delivered in a cohort-style format. You will be admitted and take your courses with the same group of students on a set schedule. Course delivery will be delivered online asynchronously. Students within a 200-mile radius will come to campus approximately one weekend day a month. Students outside of a 200-mile radius will attend synchronously online via Zoom. A new Online cohort will begin every fall semester.
The diverse Social Work curriculum provides a deep knowledge base and skill set related to social welfare, human behavior and the social environment, social work research, social policy and practice—preparing students to advance social justice, economic justice and human rights on a local to global scale. Courses are taught by faculty with extensive and diverse social work experience in areas such as child and public welfare, medical, psychiatric and gerontological social work, mental health, domestic violence, chemical dependency, and more.
In addition to classroom study, you will learn by examining professors’ real-world expertise and gain your own hands-on experience by completing a meaningful 480-hour internship prior to graduation. The internship can be completed within your hometown community. Following graduation, candidates must pass a licensing examination in the state in which you will practice.
