Pre-Health Careers & Outcomes

Pre-health programs can take you into one of the top careers in today’s job market. Healthcare continues to be one of the largest and continually growing industries. The U.S. News & World Report “Best Jobs in America 2022” includes a large percentage of health-related careers. Additionally, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 2.6 million new jobs in the healthcare industry before 2030. Demand will be compounded by an aging population and professionals leaving the profession.

There are dozens of healthcare careers to choose from, so it’s important to explore which path may be right for you. We encourage you to shadow someone in the profession you’re interested in. For example, if you think you’d like to be a veterinarian, you can ask to shadow a veterinarian near you, following them around to see what they do on a day-to-day basis.

If you’re not ready to shadow in a specific profession and want to do further research, check out the links to common healthcare careers below, or visit explorehealthcareers.org.
