What types of undergraduate programs in nursing does MSUM offer?
MSUM offers:
- BS in Nursing (for nurses that do not have an RN license)
- RN-BSN (for nurses who already have an RN license but not a bachelor’s degree)

What is the TEAS test?
TEAS, which stands for Test of Essential Academic Skills, is administered through Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) Nursing Education. The test is a basic aptitude test designed to identify students who would succeed in nursing school and who have the ability to think like a nurse. The cost to take this assessment is incurred by the student.
Where can I take the TEAS exam?
The TEAS exam is a product of Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI). Applicants can create an account on the ATI TEAS website and look to register for a test date by searching for MN State U Moorhead. More information on the TEAS test and dates can be found on the Testing Services webpage.
How can I prepare for the TEAS exam?

May I retake the TEAS exam to get a better score?
Yes, you can but you will have to pay each time.
What are the required courses for the BSN program?

Is the BSN program offered online?
The delivery method varies from course to course. Some courses are a combination of face to face, online, lab and clinical. On campus, lab and clinical presence is required for the program. The program is not offered completely online.
I have another degree but am interested in the BSN program. What should I do?
Is there a limit to the number of students admitted to the BS in nursing program?
Yes, we will admit 32 students per nursing term start.
Is a CNA required for admission to the program?
Although a CNA is not required, it is highly encouraged as it helps students become more comfortable with patient care and interpersonal skills.
Do I have to take courses in the summer?
Once you are accepted into the nursing program, you will be taking courses/clinicals in the summer. We have sequenced this program to allow students to complete as an 8-semester program (this includes summers).
I took college level coursework in high school. How do you evaluate those courses for admission into the nursing program?
The registrar’s office will review all your coursework prior to admission to MSUM. The courses used to evaluate for nursing program admission must have a letter grade associated to that course and we need an official college transcript. Advanced Placement (AP) courses will be considered on the following grade equivalent scale:
- AP Score of 5 = A
- AP Score of 4 = B
- AP Score of 3 = C
May I retake a course(s)?
You may retake courses according to university and program policy. Please speak with your advisor about your specific situation.
What courses will I take each semester?
Semester on and semester two are prerequisite courses and nursing courses start in semester three of the progression plan.
Do I need to have all of my prerequisites complete to apply to the program?
For application to the program, you need to complete your first semester of courses and take the TEAS exam. Please see BSN program Admission & Application Requirements.
