BSN Admission & Application Requirements
Dates & Deadlines for BSN Program Application

The details for applying and admission to MSUM are identified on the How to Apply page. Once you are admitted declare the BS in Nursing as your major. - Complete Prerequisite Courses
- Prerequisite courses include:
- English Composition, General Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Chemistry, Human Anatomy I w/lab, Human Anatomy II w/lab, Microbiology w/lab, and Intercultural Communication or Interdisciplinary Care of Diverse Populations.
- Application GPA: Four out of the eight prerequisite courses must be completed with final grades and transcripts prior to the application deadline.
- The four courses with the highest grades will be calculated for the application GPA.
- The GPA in the highest four courses must be 2.75 or higher; no courses below a C-.
- Admission GPA: All prerequisite courses must be completed with final grades and official transcripts prior to the nursing term start.
- All eight courses must be 2.75 or higher; no courses below a C-.
- If any prerequisite is not completed or does not meet the criteria, the offer of admission will be rescinded.
- Prerequisite courses include:
- Apply to the MSU Moorhead BS in Nursing Program for Summer and Fall 2025 starting December 1, 2024.
- The TEAS Exam must be completed (effective February 2018 and beyond).
- The TEAS Exam is offered at MSUM. Please see the Testing Services webpage for more information.
- If you have taken the TEAS Exam at a different institution you will need to submit your official score documentation from Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) Nursing Education by logging into your ATI account. There may be a fee do to this.
Admission is limited and competitive, only 32 students will be accepted per semester start. It is advised that all applicants also consider a parallel plan.
If you are a Licensed Practical Nurse, you must maintain an unencumbered practical nursing license from any state in the U.S. throughout the program.
After February 1st, the BSN Admission Committee reviews the applications and decisions are made based BSN admission criteria ranking and qualifications by March 1st.
- Applicants that are offered a spot in the program are required to accept admission to the program by the date stated in the formal offer letter. If they do not accept by the deadline, their application may be canceled.
- Qualified applicants that are not offered a spot in the program but are offered a spot on the waitlist will need to accept their spot on the waitlist by the date stated in the offer letter. If they do not accept by the deadline, their application may be canceled.
Upon admission to the BSN program, new students will receive information about required documentation of immunizations and other screenings, CPR, background checks, etc., prior to program start.
Holistic admission criteria is comprised of the following:
- Academic Metrics (50%)
- Prerequisite Course GPA and TEAS Assessment
- Experiences Essay (25%)
- Lived experiences, community engagement, volunteerism, etc.
- Formal education (more than 60 college level credits; MSUM preference points)
- Attributes Essay (25%)
- Personal qualities and characteristics
