Home of Tropical beaches, Carnival celebrations, and two of the most potent musical symbols of the Caribbean: calypso music and the steel pan. Join us as we explore the islands of Trinidad and Tobago while learning, performing, and experiencing music from around the world.

• Learn to play the Trinidadian steel pan in hands-on group lessons with a native master teacher (no experience/musical background necessary)
• Visit Trinidadian panyards and calypso music venues as they rehearse and perform for Carnival season
• Visit historical sites and museums
• Glass bottom boat tour, snorkeling, and private beach party on the island of Tobago
• Boat tour of Caroni National Park and Bird Sanctuary
• Day trip to world-famous Maracas Bay beach
• Daily lectures and discussions led by Dr. Kenyon Williams, Professor of Percussion and world Music with extensive research, performance, and travel experience in Trinidad
• Daily interactions with fellow American students from the University of Delaware
• 10 hours of required online instruction upon return to MSUM, course work due by end of Spring semester.
• Course tuition can be included in your banded Spring tuition

Apply to Study Abroad in Trinidad

1. Contact the School of Performing Arts to find out when our next Trinidad Abroad trip will take place.
2. Once you've confirmed the dates, apply to join Trinidad Abroad just download the application form.
3. Complete the form and submit it, along with a deposit of $45 (cash or checks made-out to "MSUM Travel Abroad"), by October 1st.
   • The form and funds should be given to Dr. Kenyon Williams or can be placed in his faculty mailbox in the office of the School of Performing Arts.
   • All funds are non-refundable unless the course is canceled due to low enrollment (which will be announced by October 5th).
4. Estimated cost is $2950 plus tuition (course fee includes listed course activities as well as airfare, hotel, two meals per day, and travel insurance)
