Wind Ensemble

Auditions for Wind Ensemble
MSUM's award-winning Wind Ensemble consists of approximately 52 players who are selected each year by audition. Although many members of the group major in music studies, being a music major is not a requirement for audition. Tours
The Wind Ensemble has appeared at the Minnesota Music Education Convention in 1980, 1983, and 1992. Tour destinations often encompass the states of North Dakota, Montana, Minnesota and Canada. The ensemble has also traveled to Chicago several times during tour in order to hear the Chicago Symphony, go to museums and to attend White Sox games. Past international tour destinations have included Nova Scotia (1984), Spain (1989, 1992, 2002, 2004) and China (1994). These international tours enable the members of the wind ensemble to see the sights, get to know other ensemble members better, play for other audiences and learn about different cultures.
Music
The ensemble performs original wind band music from Mozart and the music of the French National Guard Band of the early 15th century to music of the 20th century. Composers such as Stravinsky, Grainger, Colgrass, Dollarhide, Holsinger and other modern day composers are emphasized.
