Criminal Justice Courses & Curriculum
The Criminal Justice major provides opportunities to analyze the criminal justice system and to prepare for careers in criminal justice. Following graduation, students pursuing a career in law enforcement must pass a licensing examination in the state in which they will work. The procedure for becoming a peace officer in Minnesota has three basic components. A candidate must:
- Complete pre-service education and training,
- Apply for and pass the Peace Officer Licensing Exam or the Reciprocity Licensing Examination to become eligible to be licensed, and
- Meet the peace officer selection standards (established by POST Board rule) and be appointed by a law enforcement agency.
