School of Performing Arts
The School of Performing Arts is home to MSUM's interdisciplinary music programs. At MSUM, you can pursue your love of the arts in a wide variety of settings — from music education to performance, from classical to commercial expertise, from world music to jazz, from stage to recording studio — we have the outstanding faculty, ensembles, facilities and degree plans that will allow you to explore your passion for music and theatre no matter where it may take you.
The School of Performing Arts faculty features impressive artistic and scholarly credentials, with an emphasis on active professional performance, ongoing research and a strong commitment to teaching. Faculty members participate with community and nationwide groups including: The Stage, Theatre B, Fargo-Moorhead Symphony and Fargo-Moorhead Opera company. They perform solo recitals, concerts and play in many local jazz and commercial bands.
The School of Performing Arts facilities include more than 25 practice rooms, Fox Recital Hall, Glasrud Auditorium, Hansen Theatre, Gaede Stage and three recording studios. As a student in the School of Performing Arts, you’ll have 24-hour access to the building in order to practice when it fits your schedule.

Joining one of MSUM’s 11 vocal and instrumental ensembles will broadly expand your performance repertoire and help you grow your skills as a performer. Music students have opportunities to perform in ensemble concerts, in chamber groups, and in solo recitals, including monthly department recitals.
The MSUM University Theatre Series includes several mainstage productions, two annual dance concerts and many student-directed and/or created pieces each year. The mainstage productions involve students from across campus who participate as performers and technicians.
Countless opportunities to collaborate across the School of Performing Arts, as well as within the School of Teaching and Learning, allow for enhanced learning and communication, giving you a well-rounded, versatile education.
