The Department of Leadership & Learning offers multiple degrees, licensures and opportunities for you to improve as an educational leader. Our faculty are committed to helping you realize your professional aspirations through course work and field experiences that are personalized, meaningful and rigorous. We are student-focused and adhere to the university’s strategic framework.
The Department of Leadership & Learning licensure programs are CAEP accredited to ensure our graduates are competent, caring and qualified educational leaders. MSUM is also approved to participate in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements, which provides voluntary oversight of postsecondary distance education.
The Department of Leadership & Learning licensure programs are accredited by the Minnesota Board of School Administrators.
The faculty in the Department of Leadership & Learning hold the highest academic degree available in their fields of study. They are experienced practitioners who bring a wide variety of experience to the classroom. Most importantly, our faculty are mentors to guide our students to graduate learning and professional success.

The MS & Specialist in Educational Leadership provides academic training and professional experience to prepare you for leadership and administrative positions in K-12 schools or higher education. MSUM also offers an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, providing a smooth transition to extend your learning further.
The MS in Curriculum & Instruction provides a theoretical base and opportunity for practical application within educational foundations, curriculum theory, instructional best practices and educational research.

Leadership & Learning Journal
MSUM’s Department of Leadership & Learning has published The Interactive Journal of Global Leadership and Learning (IJGLL), a peer-reviewed open-access journal hosted by RED, its institutional repository. The journal’s scope features educational research from the P-12 to the postsecondary level. As an open-access journal, the IJGLL editors and authors agree to provide free access and downloads of all of its contents to the general public.
