Why are the General Lots oversold?
General permits may park in lots indicated from the east to west end of campus. Because of the coming and going of students with various class schedules and the expansion and development of new lots in the summer of 1998 and 2012, we have alleviated many of the parking problems which we previously had before.
Why did I get a ticket when my friend/co-worker said I wouldn't?
Do not rely on what a friend/co-worker says or on other people’s examples of parking. It is best to read the regulations and familiarize yourself with your parking areas.
What do I do when I have to run into a building for just a minute?
If you must make a quick trip into a building there are meters available near most building complexes. You may get a guest pass from the Public Safety Office at 1616 9th Ave South. Guest Passes are available 24 hours a day.
What do I do if my vehicle is unable to move?
If your vehicle is disabled, please contact Public Safety Office at 218.477.2675 as soon as you are able. Public Safety offers a free jumpstart service for vehicles on campus.
Where can I park on weekends?
All lots are free parking from Friday at 4:30 p.m. to Monday at 7 a.m. (Exception of Daycare parking spaces in D-1 lot which are monitored until 5:30 p.m.; and F-1 lot which is monitored daily from 3 a.m. to 5 a.m.)

I heard that you get one free ticket a year, is this true?
No. In order to have any ticket dismissed it would have to be approved through the appeal process. The appeal site is listed on the back of the ticket under number 4.
Can permits override meters?
The only MSUM issued permits allowed to park in metered areas are the No Zone, Vendor, Special and Retired Permits. Reserved and General permits do not override meters.
Is there any free parking on MSUM campus?
Yes. There is free guest parking in lot F-1 from 5 a.m. to 3 a.m. No overnight parking is allowed and vehicles parked in this lot between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. will be ticketed.
