Leon Simon was born in 1927, the son of Harry Simon, a Russian immigrant. Leon Simon, along with his brother Jack, became partners with their father in the furniture business in 1931. Along with Simon’s Furniture Store, the Simon’s owned and operated Simon’s Warehouse Corporation as well as being involved in the ownership of three shopping centers in the Fargo-Moorhead [North Dakota-Minnesota] area.
Levi Thortvedt was born in 1860 in Norway. He came to America in 1861 with his parents, Olav and Thone, and his four brothers and sisters. They landed in Quebec, Canada, and in 1870 journeyed by covered wagon to the Red River Valley. The Thortvedts were among the earliest settlers of the Otter Tail County area of the Red River Valley.
This collection is made up of the Linsell Township clerk’s records from 1908 to 1976. These records consist of account and town record books, treasurer’s records, road records, docket for the justice-of-the-peace, and voting records for the township.
John Corbid was elected to the Minnesota Legislature from District 1B in 1974 and served in the Legislature until 1980. At the time of his election Mr. Corbid was a teacher living in Oklee, Minnesota, having graduated from the University of North Dakota with a B.S. degree. Mr. Corbid later owned a resort. John Corbid and his wife, Roberta, had three children, Kevin, Rachel, and Rebecca.
The Moorhead [Minnesota] Jaycee Women were chartered 1964 under the title of The Mrs. Jaycees of Moorhead. This group limits its membership to women of the ages 18-35. The Jaycee Women is a non-profit group that contains itself with fundraising projects related to community service.
Joshua Edwin Adams was born near Perth, Ontario, in 1851. He moved to Moorhead, Minnesota in 1881. In Moorhead, he worked as a clerk at the Moorhead general store of H.G. Finkle.
Joseph Graba was born March 3, 1938 in Wadena County, Minnesota. He graduated from Bemidji State College with a B.S. in Biology. Mr. Graba undertook some graduate work at Bemidji and Colorado State College. During Mr. Graba's years in office (1970-76) he was active in the field of Education, being chairman of the Education Committee for the Midwest Conference of the Council of State Governments.
J. Herbert Swenson was born on his parents’ farm in Oshkosh Township near Canby, Minnesota. After growing up on his parents’ farm, he purchased a small farm with his brother around 1920. The two brothers subsequently gave up this farm as the agricultural economy worsened in the late 1920s. In 1930, Swenson bought a second farm, a half section of land in Hammer Township.
This collection is mostly House correspondence with a few miscellaneous items, arranged chronologically. Generally the correspondence is that received by Anderson. The topics contained in the collection are relative to bits of legislation and comments from special interest groups such as the baking industry, the Minnesota Motor Company, the Minnesota State Massage Association, the Otter Tail County Welfare Board and the P.T.A. of New York Mills, Minnesota.
Two reels of microfilm are the executive proceedings and official correspondence from July 1877-Decemeber 1888 of the Interior Department regarding the Dakota Territory. One reel contains letters relating to the U.S. Penitentiary in Dakota. The fourth reel contains miscellaneous materials regarding Dakota Territory.
