  • What is Social Media?

Social media is a powerful set of online communication tools and platforms that encourage social connectivity, interaction and discussion. There are various social media outlets, each offering an assortment of ways to build relationships and share information.

Popular social media platforms include, but are not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Wordpress, Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube, Tumblr and Foursquare.

Minnesota State University Moorhead recognizes social mediums as official communication channels between the university, our constituents and general public.

    Social Media's Value

    • Social media is not solely for marketing purposes. Social media users visit these sites for enjoyment, so present information appealingly.
    • Social media thrives when conversations occur. Focus on customer service. Respond. Engage.
    • Social media is best received when users (and brand pages) are authentic, honest and transparent.
    • Social media account administrators have the unique opportunity to learn what people are saying about MSUM. Be receptive to audience comments and respond thoughtfully in a timely manner. Listen, then respond.
    • Engage your fans and followers with compelling and relevant information. Identify your audience and present appropriate content and responses.
