  • 2019-2020 Access, Opportunity, and Success Scholars Program Application

    This application allows you to be considered for the Access, Opportunity, and Success (AOS) Scholars Program award.

    This award is $2,000 (up to $4,000 per academic year). If awarded, the Access, Opportunity, and Success Scholars Program replaces other MSUM academic scholarships (including Distinguished Dragon, Moorhead Achieve, University and Ignite) awarded to the recipient.

    Eligibility Requirements:

    • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
    • New undergraduate freshman or new transfer student (Spring, Summer, Fall 2019 admits eligible) from a population that is underrepresented at MSUM, who identifies as:
      • African American/Black
      • American Indian/Alaska Native
      • Asian/Pacific Islander
      • Hispanic/Latinx
    • Preference will be given to students pursuing their first college degree.
    • Financial need, as determined by the federal needs analysis calculation and defined by the University, is considered in the selection process. Results of the 2019-2020 FAFSA must be received by the MSUM Office of Scholarship and Financial Aid by the application deadline of May 15, 2019.

    Recipient Requirements:

    • All recipients must complete the Dragon Success Plan facilitated through the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. Requirements include:
      • Meet with student success advisor three times per semester
      • Meet with each of your faculty once per semester
      • Meet with your academic advisor once per semester
      • Attend 2 events each semester
    • Maintain satisfactory academic progress according to Access, Opportunity, and Success Scholars Program requirements:
      • As a freshman, you must earn at least a 2.0 GPA every semester.
      • Sophomores and above must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA every semester.
      • Complete a minimum of 12 credits per semester, totaling 24 credits per academic year (fall and spring semesters).
    • The majority of credits in a given semester must be taken at Minnesota State University Moorhead, with the exception of students in the Study Abroad or National Student Exchange Programs.
    • Compliance with requirements will be reviewed each semester for award renewal. Awards may be renewed in subsequent semesters (fall or spring) depending on availability of funds, completion of the Dragon Success Plan, and academic performance.

    Required Application Documents:

    • Submit a typed essay, 1-2 pages double spaced, responding to the following questions:
      • Describe what eligibility requirement(s) you meet and what is unique about you in relation to the eligibility criteria.
      • Why do you think you’ll be successful at MSUM?
      • What system(s) do you have for support through college?
      • MSUM’s core values are grit, humility, and heart. Describe how you have demonstrated these values in your life.
    • Completed application.
