Early Education Center
The Early Education Center at MSU Moorhead offers educational opportunities for young children to explore and learn about themselves and their environment. Children are able to participate in activities designed to promote their emotional, social and physical growth.
We believe every child is entitled to experiences and education appropriate to their individual needs. Therefore, we are continually striving to provide an environment and activities that facilitate optimal grown and development of the whole child.
We also believe you are an integral part of your child’s program. Our goal is to have you involved in your child’s activities whenever possible. We encourage you to grow in your parenting skills through educational programs, interaction with professionals and through sharing with other parents.
The MSUM Early Education Center Values...
The mission of the MSUM Early Education Center is to promote a safe, creative and dynamic community that nurtures and educates the whole child, while providing the skills necessary to succeed in a changing society. The staff is committed to creating a student-centered educational environment that stresses high expectations and addresses the physical, social and emotional needs of children with a variety of ability levels and learning styles. Our goal is to maintain an active partnership involving students, teachers, parents, community and staff to provide an environment that fosters tolerance and respect for each other, and sparks an attitude of inquiry and enthusiasm for learning that will enable our children to become lifelong leaders.
Our center policies and practices support diversity among children, families and staff. We encourage the acceptance of each person as an individual. The adults and children will help each other become aware of stereotypes and biases, and work to eliminate them from relationships in our program.
The Early Education Center seeks to work with other university departments, students and the community to meet the needs of the children enrolled, and their families. We value cooperation and collaboration as effective means to solving problems, and we encourage adults and children to learn and practice these skills.
The MSUM Early Education Center has been in existence for over 40 years. It began in 1971, and was one of the first early childhood programs to be nationally accredited in 1988. It continues to retain accreditation status under the new NAEYC standards. This program provides a support system for young families who are obtaining the necessary education so they can pursue jobs in varied fields of work.
