Broadcast Journalism
The Broadcast Journalism major at Minnesota State University Moorhead is designed for seekers and tellers of the truth who want to investigate, write, report, photograph, edit, produce and broadcast stories to the public. Students in the program produce many award-winning stories. If you study Broadcast Journalism at MSUM, you’ll be prepared to begin a highly competitive career as a professional communicator.
The Broadcast Journalism program has strong ties to local and regional media, including the local news directors at all of the network affiliated television stations in Fargo-Moorhead. In addition, professional broadcast journalists teach in the program. These connections give you the best possible chance to land internships with companies that may employ you following graduation.
MSUM’s Campus News broadcast consistently produces award-winning content, and frequently earns the No. 1 student television newscast honor in the Mark of Excellence Region 6 Awards by the Society of Professional Journalists, again earning the top honor in 2021 among the four-state region. In addition, the broadcast documentary class has been repeatedly recognized for producing many outstanding student documentaries broadcast yearly on Prairie Public Television.
You’ll jump right in to the program your first semester at MSUM, taking classes to build your foundation from the start. By the end of your career, you’ll have a strong, diverse resume and samples of your broadcast work to show prospective employers.
At MSUM you’ll benefit from state-of-the-art facilities and technologies, including HD and 4K field cameras, the latest newsroom/editing software and computers. Your time spent putting stories together in our newsroom as well as the opportunity to learn in our radio and television studios can give you a leg up at your internship or first job.
